Those involved in the health food industry are generating massive profits during this hype as organic food costs more then the non-organic foods found in the shop. As with every new fad, the question must be asked; Is all the positive reviews of organic food the true or is this just another way to try and get more money from the general consumer? Mainly because its definitely be costing more, is it definitely better for us?

Before I proceed I must explain what is meant by organic. To be classified as organic it indicates that it has not had anything added to it. By way of example, organic plants are usually produced without the use of pesticides, ionizing radiation, synthetic fertilizers, GM (Genetically Modified) organisms or sludge from sewers. In relation to organic meat, eggs and daily products, these have had no antibiotics or growth hormones (GH) added to enhance the rate that they may be produced.

The operation for growing commercial organic food is not an easy one as a total of 3 years have to pass before their crops can be termed “organic” For the initial two years the fertility of the ground needs to be built up and only after that are crops allowed to be grown. Certainly, cultivating organic food is no easy process and thus the price tag can be justified Then again, is all that challenging treatment worth it? Can we see any further benefits associated with organic food?

The terrific thing is that there are actually several good reasons to buy organic food. Firstly, organic food has a lot more nutritional value then the non-organic alternative. A sample of milk obtained by researchers showed up to twice as many natural antioxidants, 50% more Vitamin E and 70% more Beta Carotene then milk taken from regular cows. Organic food includes no additional substances, such as fertilizers and insecticides, which can be detrimental to your health. Also, you do not run the risk of consuming cancer causing substances which is a massive benefit to selecting organic food. Many have mentioned that organic food also offers a better taste but that’s commonly just a personal preference.

Primarily using organic food will in addition have a favorable influence on our environment. Toxins such as insecticides all accumulate to have an unfavorable influence on our environment. This can be avoided by using organic food. This will all help with a lesser degree of pollution during food production and thus will not have a harmful effect on global warming. Organic food equally influences the way animals are taken care of, as free range chickens are allowed to roam free and eat when they like whereas many normal chickens are subject to abuse, such as being crammed in cages with lots of other chickens and force fed food to fatten them up.
