Making Informed Decisions for Our Bodies

Written By: Jones - Oct• 08•16

Playing hard with our bodies means putting them through a great deal of stress. With this being the one body that we possess it behooves us to take greater care of it. Still, it is the one life that we live and shouldn’t we want to push it to the limits? How much do we miss out on life by not challenging our own physical limits? Is it a better choice to treat it kindly so that we don’t have to make regular visits to the phoenix chiropractor the older we get or should we throw ourselves into life with a wild abandon knowing the costs of such? The older that I get the more likely I feel inclined to answer with ‘treat it well’ while the younger me would have countered with, ‘You only live once.’ Neither answer is right but I feel that we need to be better prepared for the inevitable pains and consequences that are going to accompany a life pushed to its limits.

I’ve not lived a life to its limits but neither did I hide away my body from the rigors of sports or rough tumbling. I love being able to play basketball and extreme Frisbee. I love being able to climb the wall every weekend with my friends. Even as I become more fit I am putting pressure on my joints and on my back that will inevitably lead me to seeking relief from the pain that settles in. Maybe I’ll be lucky enough to avoid it but already I can feel the faintest of weakness in my knees from the years of walking and jogging. Already my shoulder pops whenever I rotate it. It’s clear that time is the worst enemy but at least I’ll have tried to live well as my body deserves.
